How to Unbrick HTC One Max with Stock Firmware

Get the →KitKat based official stock firmware for HTC One Max from here. Download the file, and put it to phone’s SD Card, and don’t unzip it. Remember the name, and the location of the file.

How to Flash Stock Firmware on HTC One Max

  1. Turn off the device and wait at least 5 seconds.
  2. Press and hold Volume Down button, then press the Power button to switch on your phone and release it, but keep holding the Volume Down button. This will take your to Bootloader mode.
  3. Under bootloader screen, select the Recovery option from the menu. Now you’ll be in recovery mode.
  4. Under recovery options, Select “install zip from SD card“and then “choose zip from Sd card“, then find and locate the downloaded firmware zip file. Select “yes” on next screen to confirm the installation process.
  5. Select “wipe data/factory reset” and select “yes” on next screen to confirm the selection.
  6. Select “wipe cache data” and select “yes” on next screen to confirm the selection.
  7. Once you done with above steps, select “reboot system now”.

  1. When I scroll down and select “Recovery”, I don’t get the option to select the file from SD Card. The screen just goes black and a red exclamation point error appears. I then have to reboot. What am I missing?

    1. That is recovery, hold down the Vol+ button and the Power button for about 5 seconds, release the Power button and keep holding the Vol+ button and you’ll go into the Recovery menu.

  3. So I tried to enter the recovery mode. But the list that comes up is a bunch of Chinese characters. Don’t know what option I’m supposed to be picking here. I definitely don’t understand Chinese. Any help on what to do about this?
