Samsung appears ready to abandon its one-foldable-per-year strategy, with leaked naming conventions pointing to both a Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra launching later this year.
For several years, the Galaxy Z Fold line meant a single book-style foldable — the kind that opens like a small hardcover — per annual release cycle.
That simplicity now looks to be ending.
Reports from Android Police cite leaks and supply chain signals that strongly suggest Samsung will field two distinct tiers under the Fold 8 name, splitting the lineup much as it does with its Galaxy S series, where a standard model and an Ultra variant sit at different price points.
A Familiar Playbook
Samsung introduced the Ultra suffix to its flagship slab phones with the Galaxy S20 Ultra in 2020, using it to signal a larger display, more capable cameras, and a higher price.
Applying that same naming structure to the foldable line would give buyers a clearer choice — but it also raises questions about where each device sits in terms of hardware and cost.
The standard Fold 8 would likely retain the form factor existing Fold users know, while an Ultra version could push screen size, hinge engineering, or camera specs further.
No official specifications have surfaced for either model.
Why It Matters
Samsung currently dominates the premium foldable segment globally, though competition from Chinese manufacturers including Huawei and Honor has intensified in markets outside the United States.
