Vivo launched two midrange smartphones in China on Thursday — the S60 and the cheaper S60 Vitality Edition — with the most prominent shared feature being a 7,200mAh battery, one of the largest cells in their price bracket.
Both models support 90W wired charging, which Vivo says can replenish that battery at above-average speed for the segment.
Display and Cameras
The standard S60 carries a 6.59-inch flat display with a 1260p resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate — the number of times per second the screen redraws, which affects perceived smoothness. Both phones include a 50-megapixel front-facing camera.
The rear camera systems diverge between the two models. The S60 mounts a triple-camera array: a 50-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 50-megapixel Sony IMX882 periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom. The Vitality Edition omits the telephoto and retains only the main and ultrawide cameras.
Software Features
Vivo equipped both phones with a set of AI-assisted photography tools built around what it calls Live Photos — images that capture a brief moment of motion alongside a still frame.
New effects include “Cool White Portrait” mode, adjustable Live color grading, and “Starlight Live,” which layers animated highlight effects onto bright areas in photos and videos. A separate “3D Spatial Visual Effects” tool converts Live Photos into glasses-free 3D images by using the phone’s motion sensors to shift perspective when the device is tilted or shaken.
Both models also support 4K Live capture.
Hardware and Build
The S60 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor. The Vitality Edition uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 7500 chip, a mid-tier alternative that typically draws less power and costs less to source.
Each phone carries IP68 and IP69 ratings — the former certifies submersion resistance up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes, the latter certifies resistance to high-pressure water jets. Both also include stereo speakers, an infrared blaster for controlling home appliances, and an X-axis linear motor for haptic feedback.
Vivo describes the back panel as a “seamless cold-carved glass” surface paired with a metal frame. A finish called “Starry Sea” uses layered lithography and 3D etching to produce a textured, reflective effect. Two additional colors — Early Summer Green and Midsummer Night — are also available.
Pricing
The S60 starts at 3,599 yuan (approximately $530) for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration. The top-tier 16GB/512GB variant costs 4,399 yuan (approximately $648).
The Vitality Edition opens at 2,899 yuan (approximately $428) for 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Its 12GB/512GB version tops out at 3,499 yuan (approximately $516).
Vivo has not announced any plans to sell the S60 series outside China.
