The flaw breaks continuous playback — a basic function that music streaming apps have offered for years — and affects users running YouTube Music through CarPlay on iPhone.
What’s Happening
When a song ends, the app stops instead of queuing the next track. Drivers must then tap through the CarPlay interface to restart playback, creating a distraction risk at speed.
Reports of the issue surfaced across Reddit and Google’s support forums, with multiple users confirming the problem across different iPhone models and vehicle systems.
Google has not issued a public statement on the bug or provided a timeline for a fix.
The CarPlay Context
Apple CarPlay mirrors a compatible iPhone’s interface onto a vehicle’s dashboard display, letting drivers control apps with touch or voice commands. Apple says CarPlay is designed to minimize driver distraction by keeping eyes on the road.
A bug that forces manual interaction with the screen during playback runs against that design principle.
YouTube Music competes directly with Spotify and Apple Music in the streaming market. Spotify and Apple Music both maintain uninterrupted CarPlay playback under standard conditions.

YouTube Music launched in 2018 as a replacement for Google Play Music, which Google shut down in 2020. The service offers both a free, ad-supported tier and a paid YouTube Music Premium subscription.
