Indian audio and wearables brand Boat launched two smartwatches in India on Thursday, both featuring built-in USB-C charging — a capability that remains rare among budget smartwatches that typically rely on proprietary magnetic docks.
The Storm Call 4 and Ultima Vogue 2 allow users to charge the devices with the same cable used for smartphones and laptops.
Storm Call 4
The Storm Call 4 carries a 1.96-inch HD display with peak brightness of 500 nits, a physical navigation crown, and an IP68 rating — the international standard for dust and water resistance.
It supports Bluetooth calling, which lets users answer phone calls directly from the watch via a paired smartphone. The device also offers more than 100 sports modes, heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen (SpO₂) tracking, sleep and stress analysis, female wellness tracking, and an Emergency SOS function.
Boat rates the Storm Call 4 at up to 12 days of battery life per charge.
The watch is priced at Rs 1,599 (approximately $19). Pre-bookings opened May 29 through Boat’s official website, with sales beginning June 12 across the brand’s online store and select retail platforms.
Ultima Vogue 2
The Ultima Vogue 2 steps up to a 1.96-inch AMOLED display — a screen technology that produces deeper blacks and higher contrast than standard LCD — with peak brightness of 1,000 nits. It pairs the display with a metallic frame.
Like the Storm Call 4, it carries an IP68 rating and charges via USB-C. Health and fitness features mirror those of the lower-tier model, including heart rate, SpO₂, sleep, and stress monitoring, along with Bluetooth calling and more than 100 sports modes.
Boat rates its battery life at up to 10 days under typical use.
The Ultima Vogue 2 is priced at Rs 2,799 (approximately $34).
Market context
India’s wearables market has expanded sharply in recent years. IDC reported that India shipped 33.7 million wearable units in the first half of 2024, with smartwatches accounting for a significant portion of that volume.
Boat holds a leading position in the Indian wearables segment. IDC's India Wearables Tracker ranked it among the top vendors by shipment volume through 2024.
Budget smartwatches in the Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,000 range dominate Indian consumer demand, and the proprietary charging cable has long been a friction point in the category. Most manufacturers at this price tier ship watches with custom magnetic connectors that are easy to misplace and not interchangeable with other devices.
By integrating USB-C, Boat removes that dependency — though the company has not released independent test data on charging speeds or long-term port durability at this price point.
