Google added YouTube Premium to its paid Gemini AI subscription, marking the latest perk for users who spend $19.99 monthly on the Advanced tier.
The company announced the addition during its annual developer conference. Subscribers now receive ad-free YouTube access, background playback and offline video downloads as part of their AI plan.
Google launched Gemini with a free tier that remains available. The paid version costs the same as a standalone YouTube Premium subscription, which runs $13.99 per month for individual users.
Access to advanced models
The Advanced plan grants access to Gemini Ultra, Google’s most capable AI model. The free tier restricts users to Gemini Pro, a lighter version with reduced processing power.
Ultra handles more complex queries and generates longer responses. It processes larger documents and maintains context across extended conversations better than Pro.
Expanded context window
Paid subscribers get a 1 million token context window. That capacity allows the AI to analyze approximately 750,000 words at once or process hours of video content in a single session.
The free tier caps context at 32,000 tokens. That limitation restricts document analysis and conversation length.
Integration with Gmail and Google Workspace
Advanced subscribers can connect Gemini directly to their Gmail accounts, Google Drive files and calendar. The AI reads emails, searches documents and schedules meetings through natural language commands.
Google restricts these integrations to paid accounts. Free users cannot grant Gemini access to their productivity apps.
Priority access and faster responses
The company routes paid subscribers to dedicated servers during peak usage periods. Advanced users see reduced wait times and faster response generation.
Google throttles free tier users when demand spikes. The company acknowledged this practice in its service documentation.
Data handling differences
Google trains its AI models on free tier conversations by default. Users must manually opt out through privacy settings.
The Advanced plan excludes user data from training automatically. Google does not use paid subscriber conversations to improve its models unless users explicitly consent.
The company released Gemini Advanced in February 2024 as part of its Google One AI Premium bundle. It competes with ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro, both priced at $20 monthly.
YouTube Premium typically costs $13.99 for individual subscriptions. Family plans run $22.99 per month for up to five users.
Google offered the bundled price point after YouTube Premium subscriber growth slowed in late 2023. The company reported 100 million Premium and Music subscribers combined in a February earnings call.
The addition came three months after Google increased individual YouTube Premium prices from $11.99 to $13.99. That hike prompted subscriber complaints across social media platforms.
Google One AI Premium members also receive 2TB of cloud storage. The company previously offered that storage tier for $9.99 monthly as a standalone product.
