PCMag Surveys Readers on Smart Home Device Satisfaction

PCMag opened a reader survey asking consumers to rate their smart home devices and digital home platforms.

The technology publication seeks feedback on products designed to simplify household tasks. Robot vacuums are among the devices covered in the survey.

Participants who complete the questionnaire enter a drawing for a $250 prize.

The survey represents PCMag’s latest Readers’ Choice research effort. The publication regularly collects user feedback on technology products and services to inform its coverage and product recommendations.

Smart Home Market Context

The smart home device market has expanded rapidly in recent years. Statista projected global smart home revenue would reach $154.4 billion in 2024.

Connected home devices now span multiple categories. These include security systems, thermostats, lighting, speakers, cameras and cleaning robots.

Market research firm IDC forecast worldwide shipments of smart home devices would total 1.4 billion units in 2024. That figure represents a 14% increase from 2023 levels.

Robot vacuum cleaners have become one of the fastest-growing smart home categories. Strategy Analytics estimated robot vacuum shipments reached 24 million units globally in 2023.

Voice assistants from Amazon, Google and Apple power many connected home ecosystems. These platforms allow users to control multiple devices through unified interfaces.

PCMag’s survey collects data on user satisfaction across brands and product types. The publication uses this information to supplement its laboratory testing and expert reviews.

Consumer feedback helps the outlet identify common pain points with smart home technology. Setup complexity, reliability issues and privacy concerns often emerge as top frustrations in such surveys.

The publication has conducted similar Readers’ Choice surveys for internet service providers, wireless carriers and other technology categories. Results typically appear in PCMag’s annual service ratings and buyer’s guides.

Survey participants answer questions about specific brands and models they own. The questionnaire covers purchase satisfaction, performance, reliability and customer support experiences.

PCMag did not specify how long the survey would remain open. The company also did not disclose when it would announce the prize winner or publish survey results.
