Samsung plans to rename at least two upcoming foldable smartphones ahead of their expected July launch, according to reports.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Wide Fold are both set to receive new names before they reach consumers, though the replacement names have not been confirmed by Samsung.
The company has not issued an official statement on the reported changes.
Samsung typically unveils its Galaxy Z foldable series at a summer Unpacked event. In recent years, it scheduled those events in late July.
The Galaxy Z Fold line competes directly with devices including the Google Pixel Fold and the Huawei Mate X series in the premium foldable segment.
The Wide Fold model, if it reaches shelves, would represent Samsung’s push into a larger-format foldable category — a form factor that has drawn growing interest from manufacturers in China, including Huawei and Oppo.
Renaming products close to launch is uncommon but not unheard of in the smartphone industry. Apple, Samsung, and Google have all adjusted product names or branding in the months before a scheduled announcement.
Further details on the new names and final specifications for either device are not yet publicly available.
